ABOUT ISKCON |
|
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a religious and spiritual institution founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, in July 1966 at New York city. ISKCON belongs to the Brahma-Gaudiya-Madhva lineage founded by Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the 16th century and the core beliefs are based on ancient Hindu scriptures like the Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagvad Gita. The main aim of ISKCON is to propagate spiritual knowledge and Krishna consciousness to the society at large through sankirtan (chanting the Holy name of Krsna), discourses on the ancient scriptures, distribution of books by Srila Prabupada, satsang (association with devotees) and the distribution of the infamous Krsna prasad (food offered to Krsna). Apart from over 400 centers all over the world, ISKCON also has farm communities, schools and restaurants– all striving towards providing a peaceful, spiritual way of life and guiding humankind back to where we belong, back to Godhead. |
